Vision For Your Leadership

This is equally as important as having a vision for your business. Great leaders know themselves and have a clear vision for how they will make a difference to the people they lead. They are also very conscious of their leadership style and their leadership brand.

Leadership is more about who you are rather than what you do. I believe leadership is a state of being rather than doing. There are many leaders out there who claim the title of ‘leader’ simply because they head up the business or have earnt a leadership role (refer Level 1 Leadership). Being a true leader is so much more than that and requires a conscious approach to leadership. The three components I mentioned being vision, leadership style and brand all fit hand in glove and are something a leader, a true leader, will have defined and will be incredibly conscious of. They will also use this as a compass for decisions and future direction in their leadership journey.

1. Vision For Leadership. A great question to ask yourself here is how do you want people to remember you? What is the difference that you will have made to an organization and the people within it? This is creating your leadership legacy. Every action you take is contributing to your legacy. This is not something that leaders should leave to chance or leave until they are thinking about retirement. True leadership doesn’t end there. The vision you have for your leadership will define you; make sure you are in the drivers seat.
